Since 2017, the HargaBits Digital Design Academy has been at the forefront of ICT learning in the region. A collaborative effort between Oxfam’s Work In Progress Project and Shaqodoon Organization, the school has witnessed the transformation of the Digital Design landscape in Hargeisa and beyond.
The school’s success has since been replicated across different cities including Garowe and Mogadishu.Koorso platform developed in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Koorso is a collaborative effort between Shaqodoon Organization and Oxfam’s Work in Progress Program to digitize the popular HargaBits Digital Academy.
Koorso, developed under the HargaBits curriculum, serves as a critical tool in transforming the highly contextual course content by ensuring that educational materials are accessible and relevant to a broad audience wherever they are. In the Web Development course, students explore HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create responsive and user-friendly websites.
They learn about user experience (UX) design and accessibility principles, ensuring that their web applications cater to a diverse audience. The Graphics Design course focuses on the principles of visual communication and creative expression. Students learn to harness industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create engaging content. In this Motion Design course, students learn the fundamentals of animation, video editing, and visual storytelling using tools like Premiere Pro. This course not only enhances technical skills but also fosters creativity, encouraging students to express their unique storytelling styles through motion graphics.
